Obama Bolama

Sorry for yesterday, my dog was missing and I spent most of the day looking for her. On with the news.

Luckily for the American people, President Obama sat down and had a beer with Sgt. James Crowley, Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Vice President Joe Biden. You'll remember Crowley was the officer who arrested Gates outside of his home after a burglar had been reported in the neighborhood. The whole thing was a misunderstanding, but fortunately the President of the United States of America was there to smooth everything over. Halleluja

You know instead of worrying about 2 men with hurt feelings the President could look at his new "Cash for Clunkers" law that went into effect last week and is already on the fritz. After less than a week, the government is worried the $1 billion set aside might already be used up. Maybe, just maybe, the entire American economy is more important than 2 people feeling slighted in some way. Call me crazy.

You know something else we should be worried about? Tigers. A tiger in Las Vegas escaped last night from the Fernando's Brothers magic act and was found in a residents backyard. Tigers in backyards...classic. Hangover pt. 2

The story is troubling to say the least. EMT's in Nebraska and Iowa are trying to figure out new ways to transport their cargo. The reason they have to be creative is because patients are weighing in at over 800 lbs. I have no comment on this sitaution, just that it's ludacris.

In the sports world, I'm sure everyone has heard by now but I still want to blog about it. Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz, both integral parts of the Red Sox dynasty have been named on the 2003 steroid list by MLB Player Association. Ramirez was already suspected as having used steroids and was banned for 50 games earlier this year. However, Ortiz was thought to be the good guy and a not a rule-breaker. Ortiz said it was a surprise to him that he was on the list. Really?! I'm pretty sure they told everyone who was on the list as soon as they got the results. Also, a guy who was released by the Twins and then all of a sudden becomes the best clutch performer in baseball and no one had any idea, especially him? That's why no one likes the Sox, except for people who live on the Cape and eat chowda... and BJ Rushing.
It's also been reported that Chipper Jones and Brian McCann were seen together at the Carousel in Knoxville, TN.

On a final note, Catie Colgan is moving to South Korea to teach English. There will be a going-away party for Catie tonight in Nashville and if you need directions call John McClure(even if you don't need directions, call and annoy him). I'd like to wish Catie good luck and safe travel while in Korea. Hopefully everyone can make it to the party and if not, then you're a bad friend.

Transmission complete.

After scouring the internet for over 5 minutes I found this article about a whale saving a diver's life. Yang Yun of China, was dragged to safety after her legs cramped up in frigid water. Jonah part 2 was obviously extremely grateful.

Gentleman Tim McGraw refused to continue performing until security removed a fan at one of his concerts. McGraw didn't think the man was acting as a noble should and demanded he be escourted out before he would get back to gettin' down. Iguess he is a real bad boy, but baby he's a real good man.

Listen to this, New York City officials are buying one-way plane tickets for homeless families so they can leave the city. As long as the families have someone who will take them in, the government will fly them anywhere they want to go. For those of you from Knoxville, imagine sitting next to "Larry" on a cross-country flight. link

Here's an interesting article about how your feet can be signs of medical problems you may have. I'm not going to summarize it for you because it's long. Read it yourself.

Since this has to do with Katy Perry, it's definitely news to me. My future bride showed off her humorous side when she got a fake tatoo of Josh Groban's name misspelled on her cheast. That's why I love her. Funny stuff

What's up homies? There's not much going on in the news world, at least none worth talking about. So I'm trying to figure out what to write about today. Let's see, I just had a phone interview with a woman from City Year Los Angeles about a position. I'm not sure about it though so we'll see. What else is going on...I'm going to play golf today at 5:30 which is nice. Oh yeah, I talked to Charlie Stinchfield today about moving out to Jackson Hole, Wyoming if a job in Nashville doesn't work out. And wouldn't you know it, a t.v. show about the Teton Mountains is on right now.

Hey I found some real news. New home sales went up 11% during the month of June which is good news. It's the largest increase in years. Raise the roof. Literally.

Ummmm....I'm reading a Jimmy Buffett book to pass the time. Where is Joe Merchant is one of Buffett's first books. It's an easy read but it constantly drops some of Buffett's song lyrics in the literature. It's kind of "toolish" but I don't mind.

If I find something worth posting I will.

TGIF! Am I right?! Am I right?! C'mon!

In a follow up from yesterday, the police officer who arrested Henry Louis Gates Jr. in his home feels he has been slighted by President Obama. President Obama said the officer "acted stupidly" for arresting Gates in his own home and the officer wants an apology for the comments. This is more intriguing than topics on juicycampus.com. Spicy

I didn't link juicycampus.com because there is no such thing; anymore. It's been shut down for some time now, but somehow I was out of the loop on that. I'm sure you all remember juicycampus. It told who did who and which fraternity was the "gayest" on every college campus in the country in anonymous fashion. Oh how I miss those days.

If you haven't seen this, you need to. A guy in Louisville threatens the prosecutor and gets tasered. The best part of the video though is not the tasering, it's the reaction of the guard who is terrified of the criminal. Watch him, it's funny and at the same time kind of sad.

So, if you haven't heard Fox is coming out with a new spin-off series from Family Guy, staring Peter's best friend Cleveland Brown. The Cleveland Show premiers September 27 and should be an uproarious good time.

Good news for the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans, the Cards just traded 3 guys I don't really know for Matt Holliday. Holliday is struggling this year but anyone who follows baseball knows what kind of player Holliday can be. Interesting fact: In his senior year of high school the former LSU Tiger was also the number 1 quarterback prospect in the country. Bottom line is the Cardinals rule and the Braves drool.

Это ребенок уикэнда, я собираюсь иметь меня некоторая забава- It's the freakin weekend baby, I'm about to have me some fun in Russian

Thursday, July 23, 2009

So I'm sure most of you have heard about the Harvard University professor who was arrested in his own home earlier this week. The newest development is that the arresting officer is refusing to apologize for the mistake he made. Sgt. James Crowley said he was merely following procedure when he arrested Henry Louis Gates Jr. It will be interesting to see what will happen next in this case. Get your popcorn ready. link

Even though I don't totally understand this stuff, I do know it's a good thing when the Dow Jones goes up and that's what happened this morning. The Dow topped 9,000 earlier after reports from AT&T and Ford were released. Good news.

There is some story about Sarah Palin on cnn.com, but since I am tired of her I am not going to read it or link it.

I'll go ahead and warn you: This story is tough to hear. An 8-year-old girl was was gang-raped in Phoenix by 4 boys aged 9-14. It's an extremely sad and messed up story. Terrible

In other bad news the Taco Bell dog is dead. The famous Chihuahua, Gidget, died of a stroke at the ripe old age of 15. Yo quiero un tejido- I want a tissue

Well that's all for now. Sorry I've been out lately, I had some stuff to move and things to take care of. More to report shortly.

Just reached the 1,000th page hit

Hooray!!!
Hey, guess what? It's here. Friday that is. And it's my dad's birthday to boot. What does our family have in store for the newly appointed 54-year-old? Nothing. He and my mom are going to Nashville because he's playing in a softball tournament, so you know what that means...Party at the Powell's.

For those interested, Tiger Woods is -1 through 7 holes on his round, making him Even for the tournament(British Open). Leaderboard

A former plantation in Gerogetown, South Carolina is believed to be where first lady Michelle Obama's great grandfather was enslaved. Imagine that, you're just sitting there at your house and there's a knock on your door. It's an african-American family and they tell you they've traced their ancestors to being owned by your ancestors. Then imagine that family being the President of the United States' family. Awkward. link

And I thought men were suppossed to be the perverts. It seems that another female teacher has seduced one of her students in to sex, if you can really call it seduction. Heather Zeo is accused of seducing a 17-year-old and having sex with him in her minivan. She must have really gone on an Odyssey to reach her sexual con-Quest of a student. I wonder if she took the young man to Town and Country. Boo-yah.

Two suicide bombers killed themselves at the Marriot and Ritz-Carlton in Jakarta, Indonesia. Authorities believe at least six are dead and many more injured. The U.S. centered hotels frequently host leaders from around the world. Scary Stuff.

The Sear's Tower, or should I say the Willis Tower is the tallest building in the U.S. The building had it's name changed after the Willis Group out of London, England became the main attendant. Weird.

I saw this story and immediately thought of someone I knew: Luke Russell. The exception is Luke never "switched teams". Seriously, Earwood, hit the link and watch the clip.

On a serious note, Taliban members say they will kill a U.S. prisoner of war if the U.S. doesn't cease fire in two Afghanistan regions. It's a scary situation and hopefully everyone will remember the soldier in their prayers. link

Aside from being one of my favorite theme songs, Growing Pains was a great show as well. Foxnews.com has done a 'where are they now' on the Seavers and it's pretty good.

Speaking of great theme songs, here are some of my all-time favorites:
Cheers
California Dreams
Saved by the Bell
Charles in Charge
Power Rangers
Unsolved Mysteries
Quantum Leap
Tiny Toons

Well those are the ones I could think of off the top of my head, if anyone can think of anymore let me know and I'll add them.

Oh yeah, Tiger Woods struggled through the British Open today, shooting a 71. I put the blame for this squarely on the shoulders of Chipper Jones because of his terrible name and old age.

What that hook gon be?

He Just Wanted to be "Fair"

I meant to post this earlier but I forgot. The Baltimore Ravens and linebacker Terrell Suggs have come to an agreement for him to stay in "the purple and black" for 6 years for $63 million dollars. He is now the highest paid linebacker in NFL history, but I guess $10 million a year to tackle people is "fair". Right? It's a good thing he's not "greedy" or he might have gotten $20 million with a bonus clause if he flapped his arms like a bird after every tackle he made.
I know he's probably a nice guy and everything, but seriously? $63 million for playing football?
link
Hello all, sorry I've been away, I've had some things to do(shocking I know). I'm somewhat trying to get my life in order and do something besides sit on my couch all day. Anywho, let's look at some of the headlines.

Since bad news usually makes the front page, this story definitely qualifies. A plane crashed in Iran killing all 168 people on board instantly. Of those on board, 10 were part of Iran's junior national judo team. Is it just me, or are there more plane crashes lately?

Beach goers on Long Island got a surprise when a 26-foot-long shark washed ashore yesterday. Imagine that, a shark that's 26-feet-long and weighing 5,000 pounds washes up while your building a sandcastle.

Two U.S. Marines were killed when a bomb exploded right beside them in Afghanistan. Sergeant Anthony Zabala was able to run to safety just before the explosive went off. It's another sad story from the War on Terror.

On a lighter note, a man in New Hampshire was charged $23,148,855,308,184,500 for a pack of cigarettes. I knew they were upping the price, but GGEEEEEZZZZZ!

I posted this story because I like the pictures. link

Finally, the MLB All-Star game was last night and the American League won for the twelfth straight time. Much of the blame for the National League loss goes to the Atlanta Braves' Brian McCann. McCann popped out to the catcher in foul territory in the bottom of the seventh inning and that just sucks.

City of Brotherly Bigotry?

Say it ain't so. Apparently a swim club in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, has asked a group of black and mexican children not to return. Huntingdon Valley is a suburb of Philadelphia. After refunding their money, The Valley Club will not allow re-admittance to the group based on their race. Even though it is a private club, state officials will issue an investigation as to whether or not this indeed was a racailly stemmed action. link

There might be a reason Lady Gaga wants to ride someone's disco stick...so she can have a place to stay. While just dancing and singing might be a few her talents, balancing finances doesn't appear to be. She told Popeater.com in a recent interview she has gone bankrupt several times and after her next tour could be "homeless again". If this turns out to be true let's hope her poker face is as good as she says it is; maybe she can stay afloat in Vegas.

This story is probably the best news Brent Hamby could get. According to a study done by scientists at Oxford University in London, ugly men produce more sperm than attractive ones and therefore increase the likelihood of getting their partner pregnant. So what I'm trying to say is there is still a chance for Brent to find someone, even if she is a 40-year-old wanting a baby in the worst way.

Here's something that will make you a little queezy. This is an interview of a former Army general who believes 9/11 was an inside job. He makes some interesting points. If you don't believe him, go to Youtube and type in 9/11 coincidences. Watch a few and then make some opinions. These studies are not done by American journalists, but rather people who don't have anything to lose. It's quite intersting.

Ok, I know that last one came out of left field but I find it interesting and since it's my blog I get to write it. I really do suggest you go to Youtube and watch at least the first five, they make you think. However, I know the real news is that Hamby won't spend the rest of his life alone and Lady Gaga might spend the rest of her's without a home(that was almost a flow). Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you we won last night in softball. Good news! I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Seriously?

After having writers' block for most of the day, I found this article and had to share it with the masses. Apparently Coors Light wants to become the 'it' beer. Coors is suppossedly going to launch a new can that is more "shotgun friendly". True or false? You decide. link

Sorry I can't write more at the moment, but I have a to own some fools in softball and then I'll be back to blog busta.

Whooty Who

P.S. The results are in and by a landslide, you guys voted Michael Jackson's kids are indeed white.

Once Every Hundred Years

Chris Earwood just brought this to my attention:

Today at 12:34 and 56 seconds it was 123456789. This phenomenon happens only once every hundred years. So I guess it's true what they say. "Earwood, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose."

Shut up Sarah

In a recent interview, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, told reporters she wasn't a "quitter". She said she was a "fighter". I don't know if she is a quitter or a fighter, but I know for sure of one thing she is: annoying. I am so sick of hearing about her and the complaints she is constantly putting out there. Yeah, they made fun of you on Saturday Night Live. Guess what Sarah? You were the vice-Presidential candidate and that's what they do. David Letterman made a joke at your expense; whamp whamp. Your job is to run the state of Alaska the best you can and when you're in a presidential race, to support your candidate as best you can, not worry about what the media says. What would have happened if she and McCain had actually won? The jokes would have become ten times worse. Would she have stepped down as vice-President because the mean comedians kept taking jabs at her? Just think if every politician who was made fun of by SNL and Letterman quit because they couldn't take it? We'd be voting for people like me eventually, and that's a scary thought.
It's rumored that Palin is thinking of trying to run for the Republican GOP in 2012 and that is another reason she is stepping down. Good luck! If you can't take the criticism of running the state of Alaska, what makes you think you can take on the United States of America?
This whole thing is really starting to rub me raw(if you couldn't tell). I'll shut up now and let you get back to your life.
Hallelujah, I am done with the sermon.

Tribute Day

In case you've been living under a rock the past week, Michael Jackson died and today there will be a memorial service in his honor at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. With all of the hoopla surrounding it I thought it'd be a good day to remember others who have made an impact, not just on pop culture but humanity as well. They are in no particular oreder, just how they pop in to my head.

- First on the list has to be Father Abraham. Yeah the one from the Old Testament. This guy is the father of the world's 3 biggest religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. If that's not leaving a mark on the world, I don't know what is. Unfortunately though, his sons are also the reason there is still turmoil in the Middle East.

- How about John Lennon. One of the founding fathers of perhaps the greatest band of all time, the Beatles, they have more Billboard #1 hits than any other artist or group in history. The Beatles were so popular and well respected by other artists that Michael Jackson bought half of the rights to their music.

- Since our country's birthday just passed, why don't we honor a great american? How about Ron Jeremy. Gotcha, you perverts. I'm going with the father of our country, George Washington. Washington was the first president of our country, the commanding general during the Revolutionary War and probably his greatest achievement, he is the face of the dolla dolla bill y'all. He also has countless schools and universities named after him as well as towns and one of the 50 states. Oh yeah, he also has the nation's capital city named in his honor. Well done George, well done.

- Let's move on to one of history's greatest conqueror's, Alexander the Great. Alexander led his first troops into battle at age 18, after being educated by Aristotle. He eventually led his troops across most of Asia and nearly conquered the entire civilized world. However, Alexander died at age 33 and was buried in Alexandria in a golden coffin.

- Another legend of the ancient world who died at 33, and is probably history's most influential figure was Jesus Christ. Born a virgin birth in Bethlehem, Christ lived a life of peace and teaching. He lived so well, he never committed a sin. The self-proclaimed son-of-God, was persecuted his entire life and crucified at Gilgotha. The Bible says he conquered death and rose from the grave. This is the day Christians celebrate Easter. Interesting fact: Without Easter there would be no Christmas. If he hadn't risen, he would have been proven to be just another person, not the son of God. Therefore there would have been no reason to celebrate his birthday.

- "Hey Will, where are all the women at?" you might be asking about right now. Well here's one. Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, and became sick when she was 19-months-old and lost her sight and hearing. Helen's parents hired a teacher for her, Anne Sullivan and the two eventually became close. Sullivan taught Keller to read and write in braile. She has become an inspiration to millions over the years.

- One of the greatest women and Americans to ever live is Harriet Tubman. Tubman was a runaway slave who led many slaves north to freedom along the underground railroad. Not only did she stare fear in the face, she also saved many Africans from a life of oppresion and showed women could lead.

These are a few of history's greatest stories, if you know any more, let me know.

celebrate we will, 'cause life is short be sweet for certain.

The man hunt is on in Gaffney, South Carolina. Five people have been killed so far by what authorities have deemed a serial killer. Some in the town have admitted they are scared for their lives knowing a serial killer is on the lose. link

Last Friday, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin announced she will be stepping down later this month. Many in the political forum are shocked while others are upset with the governor's decision. What I'd like to know is what's going to happen to the state of Alaska? Does Palin just get to step down and act like nothing happened?

A New York congressman recently took jabs at Michael Jackson after his death. Rep. Peter King called Jackson numerous names and said the public should stop glorifying him in a Youtube video. Here's the link to the foxnews.com story.

I'm sure everyone has heard about former Titans' quaterback Steve McNair and his untimely death. Now reports are surfacing about the former NFL star's private life. The man who was loved in Nashville for all of his charity and community help is now being cast in a not so flattering light. Yikes

If you've read the stories on the blog today you realize the world is a cold and dark place that is quickly coming to an end soon. Not to worry, I have some good news too.

Daniel Firpo, a recent graduate of the NYPD made his first arrest minutes after leaving his graduation. Firpo chased down a mugger after walking out of his graduation. So, if you're ever in NYC, fear not for Officer Firpo is ready to protect and serve.

If life gets too hard for you, try moving to a different location. Costa Rica was recently named the happiest country in the world, so that might be a good place to start.

On a final note, the blue words that are underlined are links to stories or something else I have put in the blog. They are blue for a reason. I write this because apparently not everyone(Earwood) knew this. So now you know. And the more you know...

Holla homies

Well, after survivng a long weekend on the river I'm back to blow your minds. This entry will tell the tale of the weekend, with the biggest events listed in no partiular order.

-Dance-offs at 412 Grille in Parsons, TN. It may have been storming outside, but we made it rain on dance floor too. Boom

-Bikini contest at the T-Room. There's nothing like 60-year-old women, 5-year-old kids on their dad's shoulders and "Get Low" to top off Independence Day fireworks.

-Getting fried. Everyone got sun burned except Earwood, who somehow managed to "get whiter".

-I survived getting run over by a boat. Our boat wouldn't start when we were trying to get back, so we called someone from the marina to come get us. Eventually the boat starts and we head back to the marina. On the way, I was thrown from the boat and almost got run over by it right in front of the guy who was coming to tow us.

-River bars are fun. Johnny's and Lost Creek Boat Dock's Bar are two of the finer establishments on the Tennessee River.

Those are all the ones I could think of right now. If anyone remembers more, let me know.
Y'all have a good one now, ya' hear

Moving to Michigan?

If so, you might want to do some reading before you go. Yesterday, 62 sex offenders were released after some confusion in the justice system. Authorities were able to track the offenders because they were wearing GPS devices. Gotcha!

Also, earlier this week seven students were shot at a bus stop near a Detroit high school. Many Michigan residents were upset about this and declined interview, but I was able to sit down with a local handyman and ask his thoughts on recent events. Here's a clip from our interview.

In world news, a story I've been following for a while added another chapter. The pentagon confirmed North Korea fired four short-range missiles yesterday. Concerns continue to grow following recent activity and provocation by North Korea the past few weeks.

For all of you warmongers out there don't worry, there are more conflicts going on. The U.S. recently began a 'major operation' in Afghanistan. One of the spots U.S. troops are targeting is a known opium hotbed. Sorry heroin addicts, you'll have to get your fix somewhere else.

For those in the housing market, you might want to look at this story and take a few notes. The notes you take should include making sure your new home has electricity and also that your new home is actually built.

And for those who want a history lesson, check this link out. It should passify your needs for a little while. Who knew President Johnson did something good in office? Way to go LBJ!

Take a look at the call-out shots on some of the other posts. It's good to see such an engaging dialogue between readers. Keep it up fellas, I enjoy it.(I know these sentences weren't necessarybut I needed a good way to plug Phil Collins)

On a final note in this post, I won't be writing as much the next couple of days, as I will be on the Tennessee River. I hope everyone has great weekend and stays safe. Everyone who resides in the great state of Tennessee also needs to remember that texting while driving is ILLEGAL now. Sorry Andrew, I guess you won't be able to update your status on Facebook while driving.

I put up a few tunes for the holiday weekend.

Don't Cry, It's July!

Hey, hey, hey it's the start of one of the best months of the year, July. The month is named after the great Julius Caesar, who also has a salad named after him.

July is the "official" month of many events you may not know, such as:

American Beer Month
National Ice Cream Month
National Hotdog Month
National Pickle Month
National Watermelon Month
Family Reunion Month

Other events aren't quite on par with these big names and only got a week set aside. These include:

July 12-18: National Laughter Week
July 25-31: National Salad Week

Finally there are those things worth celebrating, but only for a day. They are as follows:

July 1: Canada Day
July 2: World UFO Day
July 4: Independence Day
July 10: Both Cow Appreciation Day and Don't Step on a Bee Day
July 20: National Get Out of the Doghouse Day
July 23: Gourgeous Grandma Day
July 26: National Parents' Day

With all of these holidays, July should keep you busy celebrating all of the finer things in life. If I forgot any, let me know and I'll add them to the list.

Aloha for now.
